Open Desktop Agent is maintained in the open. Check the quick fixes below, then open an issue with enough detail to reproduce the problem.
Where to ask: github.com/beniaminp/desktop-agent/issues. For vulnerabilities, use the security process instead.
Quick checks
The app will not start or the agent is offline
- Update to the latest release, then quit and reopen the app.
- Open Settings → Diagnostics and check the opencode/agent status.
- On macOS, make sure the bundled runtime and the VM sandbox finished provisioning; the first start can take a few minutes.
- Export redacted diagnostics and attach the JSON file to the issue.
The Chrome bridge is not connecting
- In the app: Settings → Chrome, enable the bridge and click Start pairing.
- Reload the extension at
chrome://extensionsafter the native host is installed. -
Check that Chrome is not blocking the native host: the host’s
allowed_originsmust match the extension id. - If the popup says “Waiting for Open Desktop Agent”, the app is not running, the bridge is off, or the host is not installed.
- Close DevTools on the Agent tab if Chrome reports a debugger conflict.
A page or control is not visible to the agent
- Put the tab in the blue Agent tabs group.
- Take a fresh snapshot; refs become stale after navigation or a large page change.
- Canvas, image maps and custom widgets may need a screenshot-based decision or keyboard input.
- Cross-origin frames and closed shadow roots can hide content from the page itself; the agent can still use a screenshot and coordinates.
Approvals keep appearing
- Approvals are per task and expire. Sensitive sites, purchases, uploads and password fields are gated by design.
- Review Settings → Chrome and the task’s permission mode before widening access.
- Never send a screenshot of an approval dialog that contains credentials or personal data.
What to include in a report
- App version, Chrome version, extension version and operating system.
- What you expected, what happened, and the shortest steps to reproduce it.
- The redacted diagnostics export from Settings → Diagnostics, if the app is involved.
- The exact error text, without API keys, tokens, passwords or private page content.
- For Chrome issues, whether the tab is in the Agent tabs group and whether Pause/Disconnect changes the behavior.
Privacy and security
Read the privacy policy and the Chrome bridge policy. For a vulnerability, do not open a public issue; use the security process.
Response expectations
This is a community-maintained open-source project. Support is best effort and there is no service-level guarantee. A clear, reproducible report with diagnostics is the fastest route to a fix.
